Every art event has the potential to of making a city special. And when it comes to Hong Kong, the innovative spirit behind Hong Kong Art Gallery Week is bound to make that a reality.
Starting from November 1st and ending on November 7th, Art Gallery Week in Hong Kong this year will focus on the city-wide approach – with a program that wraps up art tours, exhibitions, talks and events which will be hosted by 50 member galleries.
The third edition of the Hong Kong Art Gallery Week will be similar to the first two editions we have witnessed over the past two years. However, this third edition definitely speaks for the desire to make a change in culture and make Hong Kong a virtual hub – and the stepping stone of art and culture in terms of regional galleries in wider Asia.
As Katie Tilly, co-president of the Hong Kong Art Gallery Association states “Hong Kong has emerged as a center for art in Asia in the past years”, it is important to know that the Hong Kong Art Gallery’s main focus is to explore but also reflect on the modern spirit of the city and the progressive popularity behind the art scene in the city, but also the region in general.
The inspiring conversations, artful exhibitions and events as well as the whole theme of this project includes some big names such as Gagosian, Pace and Lehmann Maupin but also rising stars such as the Peking Fine Arts Academy which is one of the most popular cultural hubs in Beijing.
In the end, the third edition of the Art Gallery Week in Hong Kong is definitely focused to making a change in the art scene. What has been started by the Art Basel in Hong Kong but also the first two editions of the Art Gallery Week over the years will be happily continued again – as the burgeoning art scene expressing its love for the art in every segment clearly wants Hong Kong to incorporate a more artsy appeal than to only act as an urban space.
